Inspired by the gentle art of brewing beer that is crafted instead of manufactured, Marc de Maudave Bestel envisioned the need to open a brewery & restaurant. Nestled on the doorstep of his hometown Hermanus, at the entrance to the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (famous for Chardonnay & Pinot Noir cultivars, who’s beauty bestowed its name upon it: Heaven on Earth) Marc’s vision has come to life.
THE BREWERY in Hemel-en-Aarde, Hermanus, just 90 minutes from Cape Town, is independently owned with a beer garden, classy taproom and ‘brasserie style’ Wood Fire grill restaurant (Whale Crier’s). THE BREWERY produces small volumes of various styles of Hermanus™ Beer (Lager, Pale Ale & Irish Stout) with emphasis on quality, flavour, and innovation. In addition, craft G&T, ciders, ginger-beer, all ‘On Tap’ and Wines from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley are served. Our wood fire grill restaurant serves simple and classic brassiere (brewery) dishes prepared over a wood fired grill.
